This was the band's last effort of note until they released Starship in 1991, when it was a return to the Latin-rock sound of the '60s and early '70s. During that time, they began to find a following amongst a new generation of fans who continued to view them as an underground cult favorite. As a result, the band found themselves at the height of their popularity, and their 1970's albums began to achieve much more commercial success. Starship sold over 1.6 million copies in 1991, becoming their biggest selling album. The following year, Marathon was certified platinum in the US, achieving sales of over 1 million copies. The band followed this success with the release of Santiago in 1994, which was certified gold. This album, their first in five years, was recorded in the band's native Chile, and was a return to the bands 1970's sound, although it still incorporated the Latin-infused rock and folk music of the '60s and early '70s. The band's popularity continued to surge throughout the '90s, and they released two albums in the early 2000's, Terciopelo Verde in 2000, and Carpe Diem in 2002. In 2001, they toured North America, Europe, and South America, playing more than 150 shows across those continents. In 2004, the band released their first compilation album, Che Guevara, which featured songs from their past albums and other live performances.
